I Might Be Obsessed With These Boots

8/31/12: I Might Be Obsessed With These Boots

I could wear these boots all the time. Seriously. Even though they make my feet look abnormally small. I just love them!

This is also probably my most favorite of all my Modcloth dresses. I bought it last year in the 70% off biannual sale- it’s my favorite time to shop on Modcloth. I initially bought it on a whim, but it turns out it flatters me a lot better than I thought it would. Plus it’s incredibly comfortable.

I wore this for a weird school day- there wasn’t a 7th period today, so I spent most of the day in the library working on the cast list for the fall show. I had forty kids audition and felt so bad that I couldn’t cast all of them! But there were only fifteen speaking parts, so…well, hopefully no one will come to me crying or angry on Tuesday.

After work I went to my friend Rachel’s house for an impromptu girl’s night. We had pasta with fresh veggies from her garden (I made the olive oil/fresh basil/fresh garlic sauce) and she made the best lemon poppyseed scones I’ve ever had. And we watched Newsies, which is seriously the best movie ever. All in all, the best way to start a three-day weekend!

The Tiniest Teacher in All the Land

8/30

If I told you that when parents assume I’m their child’s classmate instead of their teacher, would you be surprised? Probably not.

I ought to dress like a grownup, but screw it all. No amount of high heels or makeup or fancy updos is going to make me look like a convincing adult. I might as well just wear what I like and be done with it.

These leggings are actually pajamas, but they’re such a fun teal color that I can’t just wear them as jammies. Also, I will never be a good adult.

This dress is probably the most practical choice ever- it’s shortish, I really should have worn a cami under it, and it makes me look like a baby doll. But I wanted to be comfortable! I had library, theatre arts class, and then callbacks- I needed to be comfy. Baby doll dress and pajama leggings it was.

I wore my Narnian crest necklace since today we had callbacks for the school production of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I had forty students audition and only fifteen speaking roles, so this is going to be hard.

This pose was actually an accident. I glanced down and thought it turned out rather cute! Maybe I’ll start trying to do all them fancy fashion blogger poses.

No, I’m Not Hermes

8/29

I swear, every time I wear these shoes, someone cracks a Greek mythology joke. But do you know what? I don’t care. My shoes have polka dots and wings on them, and they are awesome.

I saw the shoes online in solid white and thought they were pretty as could be, but way out of my price range- Anne Hathaway wore them for an Oscars rehearsal, apparently. And then I happened upon them in Ross and snatched them up in a second. Thank goodness I have tiny tiny feet- these are size 5 1/2!

This skirt was one of my purchases in Modcloth’s last 70% off sale. It has elastic in the back, and it’s super comfy. And a good teacher-y length! They have the sale twice a year and they held it this week- so I’ve got two dresses, three pairs of leggings, and a pair of shoes coming my way.

It’s a little hard to see in this picture, but I matched my lip color to the pink polka dots on my shoes. I was so excited.

And then I stopped caring about things and put my hair in a ponytail.

YOLO.

Monster Shoes and a Flowery Dress

8/28

This is probably not the most attractive picture of me ever taken. Usually I take my pictures in the morning on the way out the door, when I haven’t sweated through a forty minute drive and my makeup is still pretty and my clothes aren’t wrinkled. But this…this was taken after 40 minutes to work, 2 hours in the library, an hour of theatre arts (which included participating in a lip-synch competition), 2 hours of auditions (I’m directing the fall production), and then 40 minutes home.
So yeah. Wrinkled, disheveled, demakeup’d…but it could be worse, right? It at least explains why I have such a pained expression.
This is one of my all-time favorite dresses. It’s just a $15 Target dress, but it’s comfy and flattering and I don’t have too many big print things, so…yeah! I love it.
The shoes are new (to me) and this picture really doesn’t do them justice. They seriously make me look like a cartoon character with big feet and bitty legs. They’re secondhand Fluevogs that I got for a steal on eBay, and they’re amazing. I’m really kicking myself for passing up the Mini Lover boots that I nearly bought. Ah, well. Maybe a pair will turn up at some point. In my price range.
Or not.

Also, since I’m directing The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, I wore my Narnia charm bracelet. I felt it was appropriate.

For callbacks on Thursday I’ll wear my Narnia necklace.

No, I’m not obsessed…

Tuesday’s Ten: Ten Things I’m Thinking

#1: My new Fluevogs make me look like a cartoon character.

#2: I’ve started a second medication on top of the previous one for my disorder. Wondering what side effects I’m going to have. Apparently rash=death.

#3: Still trying to figure out why medication #1 has turned off my fear receptors. I’ve been watching scary movies out the ying-yang. It. Pet Sematery. Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. Creepshow 2. Amityville Horror 2. The Woman in Black. And nothin’. I used to have to close my eyes for the trailer for the Eddie Murphy Haunted Mansion movie trailer.

#4: Really disappointed that the Nicole by OPI Rainbow in the Sky-lie nail polish was ugly as sin.

#5: I really want to go to Disney World for the opening of New Fantasyland.

#6: Speaking of Disney, I need to get started on my Merida costume for Halloween. I already have the hair and the tiara! I need to get the official Disney Store shoes.

#7: Modcloth’s biannual 70% off sale started yesterday. I ordered three pairs of leggings, two dresses, and a pair of shoes. I hope they’re awesome.

#8: I need buy graph paper, a sketchbook, and colored pencils before school. CAITLIN. DON’T FORGET TO BUY THINGS.

#9: My cat answered me this morning. I called his name and he went “Hmmmm?” and looked at me over his shoulder. I swear he’s secretly a human trapped in a kitten’s body.

#10: Okay, yeah, yep, too hot to have my hair down. PONYTAIL IT IS, YO.

This outfit is based on this Polyvore set: confettipaperdolls.wordpress.com/2012/08/24/red-heart-s…

I bought this sweater because I thought it was cute. And then, lo and behold, it was used on an episode of Glee! I promptly made a Polyvore set to assemble an outfit.

It took a while to find just the right items, and even then, I tweaked it a little. I didn’t buy a polo shirt (because really, who actually likes polo shirts?) and I opted for a navy headband instead of a red bow, but I thought it turned out pretty well!

It’s probably too short for a teacher. But do you know what? That’s okay. I’m covered. And I look pretty cute. And I look teacherish from the waist up at least, right?

Yeah, we’re gonna go with that.

I Speak Six Languages

I had my audition on Thursday for 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee! It went pretty well- we were allowed to sing 32 bars instead of the customary 16, and the directors seemed pretty happy with my performance of “I Know Things Now” from Into the Woods- they immediately asked me to stick around. We did cold readings, and I got to read for Rona, Marcy, Logainne, and Olive.

And I got a callback email just a few hours later!

Callbacks were yesterday, and of course I had a mega allergy attack and my right eye was all red and swollen and gross, and I had to wear my glasses. Luckily, though, it didn’t affect my voice.

I didn’t know who I was called back for, and they had me sing for Olive first. Oh jeez. Olive is a soprano role (I’m a mezzo) and I got all wobbly and shaky. Then they had me sing for Rona- another soprano, even higher than Olive!

Then I got to sing for Logainne, and that was awesome. And then I got to sing for Marcy, and that was even more awesome!

We mostly did singing, although I did get to read once for Logainne (the bit where she spells “cystitis.”)

And then they called back a handful of people one at a time, and I was one of them! They had me sing all the way through Logainne’s song “Woe is Me.”

And then they sent us home with the dreaded “thank you all for coming out, we’ll let you know soon.”

Gah.

The cast list should be out soon, and I’m not going to lie, I have really high hopes. They only called back six girls, and there’s 4-5 female roles in the show, so there’s a really, really good chance that I have a part.

I’m going to go sit in the corner and rock back and forth until the cast list is posted.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have to admit, I’ve never really watched The Office. I mean, I watched it on occasion in college, and I saw some of the recent episodes with Catherine Tate, but that was about it. If you had asked me who Mindy Kaling was, I probably would have scrunched up my face and been like “she’s…that one girl…on The Office?”

But now that I’ve read her book, I might have to start watching it. Okay, maybe not, but I’ll probably catch a couple episodes of her new sitcom. I really enjoyed this book. It was part memoir, mostly just candid chatting, and I loved it. It felt like Bossypants’ younger, more hyper sister. There’s nothing really deep or thought-provoking that I took from it, but it was a really fun and funny read, and it makes me want to check out her blog.

I’ll probably read it again, especially if I’m just in the mood to pick something light and enjoyable for a quick read.

Practical Educator

8/24

WHAT KIND OF FACE AM I MAKING? OH MY GOD. DERP ALERT.

Ahem.

In other news, nothing says “I am a practical educator in a private school” like wearing a denim skirt. But do you know what? I like this one. It’s a nice style, it’s comfy, it’s flattering, and my parents offered to pay for it as a gift. So…awesome.

Also, I needed an outfit to go with these purple shoes. Do you know how many outfits match this shade of purple? Not many, my friend. Not many. But they’re incredibly cute and comfy.

This was also my second attempt at wearing the Hiccup necklace, and this time it worked- I had it turned the right way!

I tried a small something different with my hair. My hair curls naturally, usually in a loose and unkempt sort of way, so I touch it up with a curling iron. I usually use a 2″ barrel; today I couldn’t find it (still don’t know how it walked away) so I dug out the 1″ one I use for performances. The smaller curls actually looked pretty dang cute! I might have to work with this one a little more.
