Birchbox January 2013 (and December 2012…and November 2012…)

I might’ve gotten a little behind on things. Oops.

I’ve still been getting my Birchboxes, and I love them. Seriously love them. I love getting things in the mail, especially surprises. And getting a box full of fun fancy surprises for $10 a month really cuts down on my impulse spending on nail polish and makeup when I go to Target.

So here’s what has surprised me at my house for the past three months!

alessandro Nail Polish in Blue Lagoon (full size $12)

I think I really like this color! It’s a cool gray blue, and promises to be “extra opaque.” The first layer seems pretty watery, but it’ll hopefully build up nicely. I definitely like it better than the Color Club Tweet Me from my previous box.

Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream (full size $42)

This intrigues me. I recently tried my first Fresh product (their sugar lip balms) and loved it, so I’m excited to try the face cream. I’ll probably never be able to afford the full size, but…uh…well, then maybe I won’t like it?

Ojon Damage Reverse Instant Restorative Hair Serum (full size $25)

Okay, my hair definitely needs this. My hair, especially the ends, typically gets bone dry pretty easily. I’ve tried shine serums and suchlike before, but I want to see how this works.

theBalm cosmetics Put a Lid On It Eyelid Primer (full size $18)

I don’t wear eyeshadow too much, but it when it does, it smears, so hopefully this’ll make a difference the next time I bust out the fancy makeup.

Harvey Prince Skinny Chic (full size $21-$55)

This is hands down my favorite perfume sample so far. It’s a clean, bright, happy scent- I could definitely see it becoming a go-to. The description says it has “Meyer lemon, white grapefruit, pink plumeria, crisp green apple, sweet mint, and warm amber,” and while I don’t know if I could pick out each individual scent, it all really smells good. The only downside- I really dislike the name!

Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper (full size $10)

I haven’t gotten to try this yet- my hair can be moody and only wants to curl when it feels like it. But I’m excited to try it, and for only $10, it might be worth it to get more if I like it enough.

Jouer Fragrance Cornucopia (full size $42)

I love that this sample came in a rollerball instead of a spray. It’s super cute! The smell is nice (gardenia, jasmine, and honeysuckle) but not particularly memorable.

ModelCo Fibre Lashxtend Lengthening Mascara (full size $24)

This is hands down one of my favorite Birchbox things ever! It’s a full size mascara, complete with a mirror on the tube, and it’s amazing. It doesn’t flake, it doesn’t smear, and it makes my already long lashes so ridiculous that they brush against my glasses lenses.

stila All Over Shimmer Liquid Luminizer (full size $20)

This is gorgeous! It’s a soft, warm shimmer that comes in a tube like a lip gloss wand. I’m not too big on shimmer or bronzer for every day, but this is nice to have in my stash for the times I do.

Chuao Chocolatier in Honeycomb (full size $7.95)

I’ve been saving this for a rainy day, and can I just say that the rainy day is probably now? Fancy chocolate is one of my weaknesses. I might even have to get the seven-pack assortment at some point in my life, just to try them all.

Juicy Couture Fragrance (full size $19-$89)

I’m still not too impressed with the Juicy Couture scents, but at least it didn’t bring up memories of old lady purses. (I will never recover from Viva La Juicy.)

Mox Botanicals Pomegranate and Fig Lip Butter (full size $16)

This smells (and tastes, because admit, we all do it) delicious! I don’t like swiping it on with a fingertip, so I keep it in my makeup case  and apply it with a lip brush.

Number 4 Clarifying Shampoo (full size $32)

I’m not sure I buy the hype about clarifying shampoos, but this one was really pleasant. But I definitely the conditioner too, so…that’s probably going to be way out of my price range.

theBalm cosmetics Hot Mama Blush (full size $20)

This is a really pretty shade- not too peachy, not too pinky, and a very warm tone. It’s a tiny package, though, so I’ll have to get a smaller brush for this one.

Tweezerman Filemate (full size $5)

The freebie for this box was a big pink and purple nail file. Nothing spectacular, but nice.

leave some love!
